Hilda Raz

Editorial Board

Hilda is the former editor-in-chief of the literary journal Prairie Schooner, from 1987 to 2010, and founding director of the Prairie Schooner Book Prizes in poetry and short fiction. She is Luschei Professor emerita at the University of Nebraska. The Tenth Anniversary Reader, forthcoming, will have an introduction by Raz. She is a past president of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs and has been a visiting writer at Stanford, Harvard, Goucher, and elsewhere, as well as at MFA programs and writers’ conferences including Bread Loaf, Writers at Work, Taos, and University of Nebraska. An accomplished poet, nonfiction writer, and editor, she has published thirteen books. Her current writing projects include a book of poems, List and Story, and a nonfiction book about transitions. Raz recently received The Stanley W. Lindberg Award for Excellence in Literary Editing and was a final judge for The National Poetry Series. She is a member of the national literary board for the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry and was a final judge for the 2012 contest, as well as poetry editor, 2012, for bosque (the magazine) and editor for the Poetry Series, University of New Mexico Press.
